It was shocking. Many in the audience were left speechless.

It was the most anticipated moment of 2007 MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas, Britney Spears to open the award show with a bang and shut up all the critiques who have been shredding her apart since she decided to get jiggy with Kevin Federline and popped out two babies, which changed her body forever. And yes, who can forget her partying ways and that lapse in razor moment.

But Britney Spears has failed. In fact, she has failed terribly. All those hype surrounding her imminent performance at the VMAs, that Criss Angel was designing the most incredible gambit ever for Britney…they were alas, just hype. Nothing more, nothing less. Britney Spears has laid the final nail into her coffin.

Appearing on stage in an extremely unflattering black and white bikini, she started her performance with some lackluster lip-syncing. When the music hit, her dancers began dancing furiously but Britney stayed almost stationery, only swaying her hips every now and then. She then walked around the stage for a bit, while continue to lip-syncing very badly.

Eventually, some dancing from Britney Spears began to emerge. It was a sort of relief as you think to yourself, perhaps she’s going to hit it this time. But she stayed that way throughout the song, some hip swaying, a few unimpressive hopping, a bit of head swinging. You keep expecting more to come, ala Britney Spears during her heyday but they never came. Maybe some chair routine or even an exotic animal, but they eluded us at this year’s VMAs.

I don’t know if anyone has notice this too about Britney Spears’ eyes. She looked terrified on that stage! She looked like she would burst out crying at any given moment. She looked terribly unsure, like she did not belong there.

What happened to Britney Spears? It’s heart-breaking, even cruel to see such a bright star fizzling out like that in full public view.
