In staggering revelations made in his new autobiography, the TV and radio presenter says he spent 30 days in a US clinic in an attempt to curb his penchant for lapdancers and prostitutes.

Brand revealed: “At one point I had a harem of about ten women, whom I would rotate – in addition to one-night stands and random casual encounters.

“But shagging – incessant as it was – no longer seemed to have the required calming effect.”

He recalled: “As my sexual appetite grew, I found myself engaged in an increasingly desperate quest to satisfy it. I became so open to suggestion that when someone asked me if I’d like to go to an orgy, I didn’t think twice before accepting the invitation.”

His manager John Noel, who had previously put him into rehab for drug treatment, realised his sex addiction which threatened to destroy his career and managed to get Brand to agree to go to the KeyStone clinic, Philadelphia, for a stretch in the “winky nick”.
